Clark Prep Career Day a Success!

Student Ambassadors with LSU Medical Students – one is Ms. Caulkin’s brother!
On Thursday, January 17th Clark Prep hosted its annual Career Fair. This year the Fair was enjoyed by all grades. Freshman, sophomores, junior and seniors heard from a wide variety of working professionals. Participants were escorted by our Student Ambassadors from room to room where they presented and answered questions for 20 minute-long sessions at a time. One group of guests informed us that our Student Ambassadors were very impressive, guiding them with poise and professionalism. Many speakers are alumni of Clark Prep, with graduation classes represented from the ’60s- ‘90s!
One of our best and brightest has a secret side conversation with FBI agents.
A few board members and community partners participated as well. We are very thankful that students had the opportunity to be exposed to so many wonderful careers and begin envisioning what kind of professional path they want to follow and aspire to. A few fields represented at the Career Fair were: policeman, lawyer, writer, data specialist, non-profit program manager, social worker, make-up artists, news reporter, artist, and many others. If you are interested in signing up for our next Career Fair or other Clark Prep events, please let us know!
Is there a doctor in the house? Ms. Gipson captures 2 of our students with Dr. Johnson and Ms. Ssenkoloto from LSU’s School of Public Health: Louisiana Breast and Cervical Health Program. Dr. Denise Johnson is an alumnus of Clark Prep and was Homecoming Queen her senior year!

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. once said, "Life's most persistent and urgent question is: 'What are you doing for others?'"

Monday, January 21, 2013 was Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, a day of celebration, reflection and service.  While the rest of the country was hard at work, ESYNOLA got in the spirit with a huge Open Garden / Service Day at Arthur Ashe Charter School! FirstLine staff and families joined us at Ashe planting trees, building beds, and constructing outdoor furniture.  ESY Community Partners, including Up2Us: Coach Across America, City Year, Hands on New Orleans, NOKP, and more hosted activities and offered support.

Volunteers dug holes, shoveled up sod, placed edging, and yes… even danced The Wobble. By the end, Ashe had a couple dozen new trees, four giant garden beds ready to be planted, and four new tables with benches.

Thanks to our dedicated parents, great staff, and wonderful community partners for helping make Arthur Ashe one of the best schools in New Orleans.

Wanted: Great teachers who yearn to make a difference!

FirstLine Schools is always looking for motivated and committed teachers to become part of our family.  We believe New Orleans can be the first city in America where every child goes to a great school, and our teachers and staff are the essential part of what we do.

We've just launched a new series of videos to highlight what we do and who we're looking for at FirstLine Schools!

Join us for the MLK Day of Service

Please join us on Monday, January 21 from 8am to 2pm for the MLK Day of Service.  Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. once said, "Life's most persistent and urgent question is: 'What are you doing for others?'"
Each year, Americans across the country answer that question by coming together on the King Holiday to serve their neighbors and communities.
The MLK Day of Service is a part of United We Serve, the President's national call to service initiative. It calls for Americans from all walks of life to work together to provide solutions to our most pressing national problems.
Arthur Ashe Charter School will be the site of a BIG volunteer day this year on Martin Luther King Jr. Day!

We want you and your family to be a part of this very special day as we work together to make our school and community beautiful.  Food, music, tools, and fun provided!
